Sculpture Projects spent many months crafting this one-track digital single, Souvenir [2:45].
The Unfolding Records information office was moved to produce this statement:
“Sculpture Projects’ new single Souvenir suggests that memory is less an archive than a process: not the recovery of what happened but the continual remaking of its emotional shape.
Within its brittle but determined frame, the work addresses uncertainty, injustice, and the difficulty of escape.
This carefully crafted miniature proposes that moving on is not forgetting: it is learning to hear the same experiences differently.”
Announcing the single to his email list, producer David Gauntlett wrote:
“As Sculpture Projects I have released a new single, Souvenir, which is a carefully crafted piece about moving beyond a traumatic thing, and which is surely good value at only two minutes 45 seconds long. You can listen here, and it would be nice if you did, although I didn’t make it for you, I made it for me. It’s probably not your cup of tea. But there’s only one way to find out.”
You can listen now on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and all streaming services.
The Souvenir single is catalogue number UNFOLD017, released on the same day as the book Fundamentals of Practice-Based Research and Research-Creation, which is UNFOLD018. They are the 17th and 18th things produced by Unfolding Records: you can view the full catalogue here.
